Welcome to Platoro

PLATORO COLORADO was a historic mining camp established in the 1870's when silver and gold was discovered around the nearby headwaters of the Conejos River. The community derived its name from the Spanish words for silver and gold (Plata and Oro). Much of the rustic flavor of those storied times remains in many of the log cabins in the area as well as our lodge.

Fishing / Boating - Fish the nearby Conejos River & many un-posted streams including several miles of quality "wild trout waters". There are dozens of high-country lakes that produce excellent trophy fishing. Platoro Reservoir, just minutes away, is stocked with Browns, Rainbows, and Kokanee Salmon.

Hiking / Backpacking - Dozens of trails to hike! Trails vary from an easy, day-hike to more difficult, overnight adventures into remote regions. Numerous national forest trails, including the continental divide trail that takes you too many high mountain lakes and streams.

Hunting -Platoro offers great opportunity for elk, deer, bear, and snowshoe rabbit hunting.  Surrounded by public land with over the counter licenses available.

Bicycling - The great divide bicycle route comes through Platoro and we enjoy hosting riders for a nice rest and shower before they continue south.

We are working on the website, and the Lodge and Cabins. We will be upgrading and improving as we go let us know any suggestions. We hope you keep coming back and see all the changes and enjoy your stay.
